On Friday, 20 March 2026, students and members of the FTHM Eco Committee brought a long-planned project to life \u2014 the establishment of the FTHM Botanical Collection. Native plant species donated by seven national and nature parks across Croatia were planted, creating a dedicated space for outdoor teaching and learning, as well as a green oasis for rest and research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project donors are: Krka National Park<\/strong>, Plitvice Lakes National Park<\/strong>, Northern Velebit National Park<\/strong>, Paklenica National Park<\/strong>, Kopa\u010dki Rit Nature Park<\/strong>, Lastovo Islands Nature Park<\/strong> and Vrana Lake Nature Park<\/strong>, which together donated a total of 14 native plant species. The collection includes strawberry tree (Arbutus unedo<\/em>), Illyrian hellebore (Helleborus multifidus<\/em>), radiate broom (Genista radiata<\/em>), variegated iris (Iris variegata<\/em>), Velebit degenia (Degenia velebitica<\/em>), white willow (Salix alba<\/em>), summer snowflake (Leucojum aestivum<\/em>), black pine (Pinus nigra<\/em>), wild olive (Olea oleaster<\/em>), Mauritanian grass (Ampelodesmos mauretanica<\/em>), Dalmatian hatchet vetch (Biserrula pelecinus<\/em> ssp. dalmatica<\/em>), stinking bean trefoil (Anagyris foetida<\/em>), chaste tree (Vitex agnus-castus<\/em>) and European white elm (Ulmus laevis<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The planting was led by Hrvoje Krivo\u0161i\u0107<\/strong>, landscape architect at Plitvice Lakes National Park, whose expert support was instrumental in realising the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Botanical Collection is an initiative of the Eco Committee students aimed at raising awareness of the importance of environmental protection and sustainable development. By establishing the collection, the Faculty and its students contribute to education on biodiversity and nature conservation, while also supporting the Sustainable Development Goals \u2014 in particular those related to quality education, climate action and the protection of terrestrial ecosystems. The collaboration with national and nature parks strengthens the partnership between the academic community and nature conservation institutions, and reaffirms FTHM’s commitment to sustainable development and responsible environmental stewardship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
