A panel discussion and workshop titled \u201cLight Pollution and Negative Health Effects\u201d was held at the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management in Opatija, organized by the Association Prirodni ljekoviti \u010dinitelji, on the occasion of the University of Rijeka Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event brought together experts and participants interested in the health, environmental, tourism and legislative aspects of light pollution. Through lectures and discussion, it was emphasized that excessive and inappropriate artificial lighting can affect sleep, the circadian rhythm, quality of life and the environment, while preserving dark night skies opens up opportunities for the development of astrotourism as a sustainable form of tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The programme featured Albert Cattunar, MSc, from the Association Prirodni ljekoviti \u010dinitelji, Associate Professor Hrvoje Grofelnik, PhD, from the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Andrej Mohar from the Dark-Sky Slovenia Association, and Boris \u0160tromar from the Beskraj Astronomical Society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the lectures, a practical part of the programme was held, during which participants had the opportunity to observe the Sun through a telescope with the support of astronomers and take part in a space-themed VR experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The panel discussion and workshop highlighted the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to light pollution, as well as the need for more responsible management of lighting and space. The event opened important questions related to health protection, environmental preservation, spatial quality and the development of sustainable forms of tourism in Croatia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
