As part of the Erasmus+ KA171 program, our faculty is hosting Dr. Simon Were and Dr. Rose Shikuri from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Kenya. On May 10, 2024, during the course ” Economics of Catering Businesses” Dr. Simon Were from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Kenya, delivered a lecture on the topic: HOSPITALITY OPERATIONS: A FOCUS ON THE KENYAN INDUSTRY. In his lecture, Dr. Simon Were describes Kenya, focusing on its geographical position, population, size, and the importance of international airports for tourism. He also discusses Kenya’s regional and international trade participation, particularly in tourism, and the hospitality industry’s contribution to the country’s economy. The lecture highlights the state of the hospitality industry, including attractions, national and local management, and the importance of databases. It provides insight into legal frameworks, tourist visit statistics, and future projections. Finally, it addresses challenges facing Kenya in tourism, such as product quality, infrastructure, and climate change.
