As part of the MARINET project, which is being conducted at Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Prof. Greta Krešić, Ph. D., Elena Dujmić, Jelena Kapeš, and Mia Sokolović organized a free guided oyster tasting, held on March 23, 2025, during the Lim Bay Oyster Day.
The tasting was led by Nada Vahčić, Ph. D., who presented key information about oysters, including their habitat, characteristics, nutritional value, sensory properties, and specific aspects of aquaculture farming. Through this expertly guided tasting, participants had the opportunity to learn how to assess oyster quality and gain a deeper understanding of the factors influencing their flavor and texture.
During the event, more than 100 participants had the chance to taste oysters from different farming methods, with the results of consumer preference assessments to be utilized in future promotional activities led by FMTU. These insights will help better understand consumer habits and preferences, contributing to the promotion and increased consumption of oysters from aquaculture.
This activity, conducted in collaboration with the Istrian Chamber of Trades and Crafts as a project partner, was conducted as part of the MARINET project’s promotional efforts, aimed at raising awareness of the quality of aquaculture products and the importance of sustainable marine resource management. Through educational initiatives such as this guided tasting, scientific knowledge is brought closer to end users, fostering a better understanding of aquaculture, oyster quality, and farming practices.
