On 27 May 2026, the Faculty of Management in Tourism and Hospitality hosted the international scientific conference SITECON 2026, dedicated to the development of accessible and inclusive tourism.

The conference brought together scientists, experts and representatives of institutions and associations from eight countries, with a particular focus on the development of an inclusive tourism system based on the principles of universal design. Through a series of thematic presentations and discussions, participants presented innovative solutions and examples of good practice aimed at creating more accessible and inclusive tourist destinations for people with disabilities, older people, families and other user groups.

One of the key topics of the conference was the importance of diversifying tourist flows and developing all-year-round tourism through the application of sustainable and inclusive approaches in the planning of tourist products and services. The need to remove barriers in communication, signage, public spaces and tourist infrastructure was emphasised, with the aim of making destinations more accessible and appealing to all visitors.

SITECON 2026 once again confirmed the importance of international cooperation and the connection between science, institutions, associations and tourism practice in creating more sustainable, accessible and socially responsible tourist destinations of the future.

The conference was also the final event of the SITE – Shaping Inclusive Tourist Experiences project, which was funded by the Interreg Italy-Croatia programme 2021-2027.
