As part of the Hubert Curien “Cogito” programme, a Croatian–French programme in science and technology jointly implemented since 2002 through cooperation between the Ministry of Science, Education and Youth of the Republic of Croatia and the French Embassy in Croatia, our professor Sabina Hodžić, PhD, and former doctoral student Eva Mijatović, PhD, paid an official visit to Jean Moulin Lyon 3 University in Lyon, France.

The “Cogito” programme aims to facilitate and develop high-quality scientific and technological cooperation between Croatian and French researchers through joint research projects.

As part of the joint project “The fiscal challenges for sustainable tourism: a comparative analysis between Croatia and France”, led by Prof. Sabina Hodžić, PhD, from our institution, a conference entitled “Tourism and Public Finances” was held in Lyon on 16 October. Our colleagues presented their research findings during the panels “Methods and Evaluations of tourism policies – Croatian perspective” and “The Fiscal Dimension of Tourism in Croatia”.

The conference explored trends and challenges in tourism development in Croatia and France, as well as the impact of tourism on public finances in both countries. Particular attention was paid to fiscal instruments directly related to tourism, primarily flat-rate taxes and fees, and their application in Croatia, France, Italy and Poland.

We look forward to continuing our collaboration with our French colleagues at our Faculty, further exchanging knowledge and experiences, and gaining new insights into this field.
