The importance of the Institute is reflected in the synergistic activities that link three very important and fundamental departments.
The results of the research, especially in the modern conditions of globalization, increasing competitiveness and world and European market trends in tourism and hospitality, oblige us to lead the Institute in these research areas, which are indispensable in responding to contemporary trends in finance, financing and taxation of tourism supply and demand, quantitative analysis and modeling of the main determinants of the tourism sector.
The fundamental mission of the Institute of Finance manifests itself in the synergetic work of the affiliated departments, in the continuous work, innovation and improvement in the field of finance and quantitative economics, and in the creation of a permanent link between scientific research and professional practice.

Description of the scope of work, basic activities, etc:
The members of the Department of Finance work in research and teaching in the areas of financial management, financial efficiency of development programs, cost-benefit analysis, monetary economics, financial markets and institutions, risk management, corporate financial management, and international project finance. The scientific activity of the members of the Department is reflected in their active participation as leaders and members of research teams in scientific projects of the University of Rijeka and in active participation in professional projects led by the Faculty.
The main objective of the Department is to ensure specific competences in the field of finance at all qualification levels for which students of the Faculty of Management in Tourism and Hospitality, Opatija are trained. The mission of the Department is to provide theoretical knowledge in the field of finance, develop specific skills in financial management and ultimately train students for independent and responsible management and decision making in practice.
In carrying out its teaching activities, the Department regularly brings in experts from the field to demonstrate to students the practical application of finance in the real sector. The members of the Finance Department participate in the implementation of the following subjects, as follows:

Description of the scope of work, basic activities, etc:
The Department of Public Finance conducts scientific and professional research on public sector efficiency, sustainability and accountability in order to present the research results to public and private decision makers. To achieve these goals, it conducts analyzes of economic trends and policies for the public sector. It also studies the impact of tax policies on the economy, tourism, local self-government units, and also the method of financing smart cities. The main activities of the Department are related to teaching and to the scientific and professional activities of its members. In order to achieve these goals, the members of the Department are trained in the country and abroad and publish scientific papers in high-ranking journals. Thus, the main areas of activity are public finance, financing of environmental protection, comparison of other tax systems, financing of smart cities and others.

The scientific and professional activity of the Department includes research and work in the field of quantitative economics, active participation in the improvement of the curriculum and linking theoretical research and professional practice. In addition, the members of the Department are actively involved in research, which is reflected in a large number of scientific projects funded by the Ministry of Science, the University of Rijeka and other scientific institutions, as well as in the implementation of numerous professional projects.
The goal of the Department is to improve and renew the field of quantitative economics and to connect scientific research with professional practice. This is done by promoting the mobility of members, networking with other domestic and foreign institutions in the field of quantitative economics, participating in scientific and professional congresses at home and abroad, publishing scientific and professional papers, and participating in many other faculty activities.
