Institute Director:
Krešimir Mikinac, Ph. D., Assistant Professor
Within the Institute there are two departments, namely
- Department of Hotel Management, Catering and Restaurant Management
- Department of the Organization of Work in the Hospitality Industry
The backbone of the work and development of the Institute, as well as the departments that operate in it, is based on the teaching of modern theory and the acquisition of practical skills of students – future leaders in tourism and hospitality.
In its modest spatial conditions, students of college and professional studies have the opportunity to directly participate in and consume the main gastronomic services in the field of food and beverages, as a basis for creating a recognizable brand in the domestic and foreign tourism market. Surveys among students have shown that this type of teaching is extremely interesting and attractive and allows the full acquisition of skills, practical knowledge and competencies required of students during their studies.
The problem of housing and budgeting is dealt with by the subject teachers specifically in theory and by means of a whole series of practical examples. Special emphasis is placed on the application of modern techniques and technologies in these important departments of a large or small hospitality business.
Department of Hotel Management, Catering and Restaurant Management
Department Head:
Marina Laškarin Ažić, Ph. D., Associate Professor
Members of the Department:
The Department thus combines two important areas of work:
- Hotel industry – analysis of global trends in the turbulent, dynamic market of the XXI century. A special interest is the increase of quality and competitiveness from the point of view of entrepreneurship and management in the hotel sector.
- Gastronomy and caterers – following the modern trends in this field, special emphasis is placed on the design of the food and beverage offer according to the requirements and needs of the tourist market.
Based on the course content and the name of the Faculty (for Tourism and Hospitality Management), the “DEPARTMENT OF HOSPITALITY, GASTRONOMY AND RESTAURANTS”, which operates within the Institute of Hospitality, is one of the main departments. In addition, through its activities towards external institutions, business entities, associations, municipalities and federations, the department promotes one of the fundamental activities of the Faculty, directly related to the profession of hospitality and tourism.
With numerous textbooks, scientific and professional papers and lectures for hospitality and tourism professionals, the members of the Department promote the fundamental contents of their field of activity in the best possible way.
