On 7 March 2025, a training course for internship mentors took place at the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management. The aim of the education, entitled The Role of Students and Mentors in the Internship Process, was to share knowledge and experience in the organisation and implementation of student internships and to analyse trends and challenges in mentoring new generations of students.
The workshop was opened by Professor Marinela Krstinić Nižić, PhD, the Dean of Development, who thanked all employers for hosting and mentoring our students for their internship. The benefits of mentoring were presented by Assistant Professor Ivana Ivančić, Head of the Internship of the study programmes Hospitality Management and Management in Tourism, and Assistant Professor Maša Trinajstić, PhD, Head of the Internship of the study programme Sustainable Development Management, who presented the results of the student survey on the internship.
Nikoleta Zubić, mag.oec., mag. psych., Head of the Council for Career Counselling and Career Development at the University of Rijeka presented the challenges faced by mentors and opened a debate on new ways of communication and forms of motivation. The employer mentors shared their experiences and pointed out that each mentor should be dedicated to the students and introduce them to the business and organisational structure of the company.
The education, which could be followed online and on-site, was attended by 50 mentors from tourist boards, travel agencies, local self-government units, and hotel groups. All participants will receive a certificate of participation in the education.
