As part of the Erasmus+ project GreenTEA, an educational event titled ‘Green Tourism: Are We Travelling Green?” was held for third- and fourth-year students at the Hotel and Tourism School in Opatija. Jelena Đurkin Badurina and Daniela Soldić Frleta, both from the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management at the University of Rijeka, led the education programme.
The education aimed to encourage students to understand the principles of sustainability and green tourism, and emphasise the importance of all tourism stakeholders acting responsibly and sustainably. Through interactive discussions and case studies, students were encouraged to critically consider environmental issues when travelling, particularly in the context of contemporary sustainable development and low-impact tourism trends.
This educational activity is another step towards raising awareness of the importance of sustainable tourism practices among young people who will shape the future of tourism.
We would like to express our gratitude to the school’s principal, Mr. Sc. Ksenija Beljan, and Professor Zagorka Ivanković, for giving us this opportunity, and for their warm welcome and hospitality.
