On 11 December 2025, Prof. Dr. Sc. Elena Rudan delivered a presentation to students, as part of her lectures, on the Horizon project CROCUS – Cross-Border Cultural and Creative Tourism in Rural and Remote Areas (HORIZON-CL2-2023-HERITAGE-01), within Cluster 2 – Culture, Creativity and Inclusive Society.
The lecture placed special emphasis on presenting the results of research conducted within the CROCUS project, which covers the cross-border areas of two municipalities: Matulji (Croatia) and Ilirska Bistrica (Slovenia). The lecture explored opportunities that encourage the development of cultural and creative tourism in rural and remote areas, with particular focus on border regions. The aim of the lecture was to familiarise young people—future tourism professionals—with the importance of sustainable development of rural cross-border areas and to highlight the significance of preserving cultural heritage as a foundation for innovative and sustainable tourism development.
