Introductory word
The Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management of the University of Rijeka, as a scientific-research and educational institution, is a creator of knowledge about tourism, hospitality and sustainable development. We provide our students with quality education to take leadership positions in the conditions of strong global competition, and our Alumni are proof of that.
I deeply believe that by connecting the Faculty as a nursery of knowledge and Alumni, from a stimulating working environment, we can together initiate innovation, scientific research and educational excellence, loyalty and commitment.
Become a member of the Alumni Association so that we can get to know each other better and socialize, to cooperate more, to learn from each other, but also to help each other in work and in life! We look forward to creative partnerships with our alumni and the economy as a whole!
Sincerely, Yours
Romina Alkier Tomić, Ph. D., Full Professor
President of the FTHM Alumni Association
Dear and beloved members of the Alumni of the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management,
allow me to greet you on behalf of all employees and thank you for your contribution to the development of our Faculty. I believe that as proud members of our Alumni, you will support the further development of the Faculty and encourage all activities connecting the Faculty with the economy.
The Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management is the only university institution in Croatia fully oriented towards education and research in the field of tourism, hospitality and sustainable development. Through its activities, it actively contributes to the professional and scientific development of tourism and hospitality, the sustainable development of tourism, and the implementation of the UNWTO global code of ethics for tourism. By encouraging its social role, it strengthens the environment in which it operates and in the long term promotes the development of its own personnel as well as its own positioning.
Cooperation with the economy is extremely important for the improvement of teaching activities at all levels of study programmes, as well as for the process of scientific and research work. FTHM alumni certainly contribute to cooperation and connection with the economy, but are also one of the key stakeholders in the work of the Faculty’s Center for Careers and Professional Practice. In addition, you are a great support to us in the improvement of study programmes, since together with you we want to continuously check the attractiveness and expediency of the learning outcomes of undergraduate and graduate studies, in order to remain competitive on the education market. Thanks to you, we find out how competent our graduates are, and with your help we promptly improve the study programmes and harmonize them with the requirements of the tourism and hotel industry in Croatia. We look forward to your mutual satisfaction when you come to us as guest lecturers and present to our students your previous experience both as a student and as a successful stakeholder in the economy. The faculty will strive to continuously upgrade the membership base and maintain contact with current and future members through social networks, organizing various activities for you. In addition to current thematic lectures that the Faculty will organize for all members, a whole series of lifelong education programmes are available to you for the more successful development of your professional career. With lifelong education, we can more readily face all the challenges, crises and turbulences that characterize tourism. Namely, tourism in Croatia needs staff who, in addition to professional and digital competences, also possess emotional intelligence, know foreign languages, work effectively in different teams, is creative, innovative, able to think critically and analytically, make ethical judgments and, above all, is socially responsible. Therefore, invest in your knowledge, increase your competences and improve your talents. Send a message of fairness and be clear that ignorance is unacceptable. Invest in your further education, because only one thing is more expensive in the long run than education, and that is not getting an education!
