The Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management in Opatija, as the only institution in the Republic of Croatia, which is completely oriented towards education, staff development and scientific research in the field of tourism and hospitality, conducts the university undergraduate programme “Business Economics in Tourism and Hospitality” (4 years, 240 ECTS).
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has awarded the programme with the UNWTO.TedQual quality certificate for the period 2020-2024. UNWTO.TedQual is a programme of the UNWTO.Themis Foundation and is the most important proof of the quality of higher education, training and research programmes in tourism around the world.
The university undergraduate study programme “Business Economics in Tourism and Hospitality” has 2 programmes, namely:

- Hospitality Management
The university undergraduate study programmes are conducted at the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management in Opatija for:

Enrolment requirements
Completion of a four-year secondary school, passed state matriculation examination and fulfilment of the requirements for enrolment in the first year of study.
The aim of the study programme
The aim of the study programme is to train students to solve complex tasks and manage economic processes in the field of business economics in tourism and hospitality.
Competences acquired after completion of the degree programme
- Mastery of knowledge in the field of business economics in tourism and hospitality.
- Ability to apply business management methods and models in tourism and hospitality.
- Ability to observe and analyse economic and tourism policies, practises and trends.
- Ability to manage human, financial, material and information resources.
- Ability to manage projects.
- Organisational and leadership skills.
- Ability to communicate in business in native and foreign languages and to use information and communication technologies.
- Ability to understand tourism and hospitality legislation and standards.
- Ability to evaluate and propose appropriate development strategies, business plans and budgets.
- The ability to take responsibility for making decisions and performing more complex tasks in the tourism and hospitality industry, respecting the principles of ethics and social responsibility.
Upon completion of this programme, students will develop general competencies such as the ability to think abstractly, think critically, develop new ideas, identify and solve problems, plan and manage time, continuously improve, work independently and other skills.
Possibility of employment
Upon completion of this study programme, students will be able to work in the field of tourism, as well as in other areas of business economics. The undergraduate study programme is designed to provide relevant knowledge to perform lower and middle level management roles in the tourism sector. After graduation, there is the possibility of employment in:
- in the system of tourism organisations, tourist boards, travel agencies and associations,
- in the hotel industry and in all selective forms of tourism supply as well as in the accompanying industry,
- in the public sector, in the communal services, in the media, in accounting, in control and inspection services,
- in the educational system,
- in financial institutions and in other economic business systems where specific knowledge in the field of tourism and hospitality is required.

Possibility to continue studies
Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics (240 ECTS) can continue their studies in one of the graduate programmes or enrol in some of the lifelong learning programmes.
