The Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management in Opatija is the only institution in the Republic of Croatia fully focused on education, staff development and scientific research in the field of tourism, hospitality and sustainable development. It offers the undergraduate study programme “Management of Sustainable Development” (4 years, 240 ECTS).

Enrolment requirements
Completion of a four-year secondary school, passed state matriculation examination and fulfilment of the requirements for enrolment in the first year of study.
The aim of the study programme
The aim of the study programme is to train students to solve complex tasks and to manage economic and social processes in the field of business economics in tourism and sustainable development.
Competences acquired after completion of the programme
- Mastery of knowledge in the field of business economics and sustainable development.
- Ability to monitor and evaluate trends related to sustainable tourism development and plan sustainable tourism development policies.
- Ability to apply business methods and models in the fields of tourism, hospitality and sustainable development.
- The ability to manage projects respecting the principles of sustainable development.
- The ability to manage human, financial, material and information resources.
- Organisational skills and leadership qualities.
- Ability to communicate in business in native and foreign languages and to use information and communication technologies.
- Ability to apply laws and standards in the fields of tourism, hospitality and sustainable development.
- Ability to make independent decisions and carry out more complex tasks in tourism and hospitality, respecting the principles of ethics and social responsibility.
Upon completion of this programme, students will develop general competencies such as the ability to think abstractly, think critically, develop new ideas, identify and solve problems, plan and manage time, continuously improve, work independently and other skills.
Possibility of employment
The programme is designed to provide relevant knowledge for the performance of managerial functions at lower and middle levels in the tourism sector, which needs to be developed under modern conditions according to the principles of sustainable development. Upon completion of the degree, there is the possibility of employment in:
- in the public sector
- tourism sector (system of tourism organisations, tourist boards, travel agencies, tourism associations)
- all selective forms of tourism supply and supporting industry (department of environmental management, green procurement, green infrastructure)
- educational system
- communal services, media, accounting, control and inspection services, financial institutions and other economic business systems that implement and improve sustainable development.

Possibility to continue studies
Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics (240 ECTS) can continue their studies in one of the graduate programmes or enrol in some of the lifelong learning programmes.
