On Friday, 1 December 2023, the President of the Republic of Croatia, Mr Zoran Milanović, visited the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management. The President of the Republic, Mr Zoran Milanović, gave a lecture on the topic of “Security and political circumstances and challenges for Croatian tourism” and then answered students’ questions. When asked what he sees as security problems for Croatia, President Milanović warned of constant changes in the functioning of the European Union.
During the lecture to the 50th generation of students of the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management enrolled in the 2023/2024 academic year, President Milanović spoke about the role of tourism for Croatia. The President said: “We have to accept the fact that Croatia has 20% of its economy in tourism, but also that it is very important to make tourism a top product” and added that we all depend on some exogenous factors that we can hardly influence, and so does tourism.
During his stay at the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management, President Milanović held a working meeting with the management of the Faculty. The meeting was attended by the Dean Prof. Marko Perić, Ph.D., Vice Deans Prof. Zvonimir Šverko Grdić, Ph.D., Prof. Marinela Krstinić Nižić, Ph.D., Associate Professor Elena Rudan, Ph.D., Prof. Anamarija Vrtodušić Hrgović, Ph.D., Associate Professor Siniša Bogdan, Ph.D., Faculty Secretary Maja Juračić, Vice Rector Prof. Saša Zelenika, Ph.D., as well as representatives of the City and County, the Mayor of the City of Opatija, Fernando Kirigin, and the Deputy Prefect of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, Marina Medarić.
President Milanović was accompanied by the Presidential Advisor for Education Jadranka Žarković and the Presidential Commissioner for Sport Željko Jovanović.
