As part of the Erasmus+ BET – Alliance for Skills, Sustainability, and Innovation in Emerging Tourism Types project, research was conducted to explore current and future competency needs in emerging forms of tourism.

📊 Based on a survey, expert interviews, and an analysis of educational programmes, the findings reveal a significant gap between the perceived importance of specific competences and their actual presence.

The greatest needs were identified in the following areas:

🔹 sustainability and regenerative tourism
🔹 digital and technological skills for smart tourism
🔹 business innovation and market intelligence
🔹 resilience, risk and crisis management
🔹 social, creative and strategic thinking

At the same time, the research confirms a growing need for new professional profiles, such as the Sustainable Science Tourism Consultant, Digital Nomad Community Manager, and Metaverse Tourism Specialist.

🎓 Participants particularly highlighted the importance of blended learning, practical work, project-based approaches, micro-credentials, and ECTS credits.

These findings provide an important foundation for developing new competence frameworks, curricula, and educational programmes that respond to the needs of the future of tourism in Croatia.
