By painting the walls of the substation, the students of the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management have sent a message that the Opatija area is a tourist destination all year round and thus attractive to the local population in all seasons. Thus, in autumn you can enjoy desserts made from Lovran chestnuts or walks through the woods and mushroom harvesting, in spring you can prepare delicacies from wild asparagus, and in summer, apart from sun and sea, you can indulge in local varieties of cherries called brtošinka. Winter brings pleasant temperatures ideal for various Advent activities and exploring the region, and outdoor tourism can be practised all year round.
This project was realised by students of FMTU in cooperation with students of the Academy of Applied Arts of the University of Rijeka. The authors of the mural are Doris La Mazza and Filip Novak, with the help and guidance of Omar Lović. With the installation of the Vrh Ika substation, the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management and the City of Opatija celebrated International Cooperation Day, which has been celebrated every first Saturday in July since 1992.
