SITECON: Shaping Inclusive Tourist Destinations & Societies

Scientific conference SITECON 2026

The international scientific conference SITECON 2026 – Shaping Inclusive Tourist Destinations & Societies was successfully held on 27 May 2026 at the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management, University of Rijeka, in Opatija, as the final event of the SITE – Shaping Inclusive Tourist Experiences project, funded through the Interreg Italy–Croatia 2021–2027 Programme.

The conference gathered 72 participants including representatives of the project partners from Croatia and Italy. The conference fulfilled its goal of providing a platform for the exchange of scientific knowledge, practical experiences and innovative approaches to the development of inclusive and accessible tourism destinations. A total of 21 scientific and professional contributions were presented during the conference, while the SITE project partners showcased the project’s main achievements, results and examples of good practice in the field of accessible and inclusive tourism.

As organizers, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to all authors, presenters, participants and reviewers for their valuable contribution to the success of the conference. We would like to extend special thanks to the SITE project partners for their excellent cooperation, knowledge exchange and commitment to promoting accessible and inclusive tourism. We also thank all institutions, organisations and individuals whose support and engagement contributed to the successful organisation of the conference and the achievement of its objectives.

Conference Proceedings – coming soon

The conference proceedings, containing peer-reviewed scientific and professional papers presented at SITECON, are currently in preparation and will be published upon completion of the editorial and review process.

Open Access and Copyright Policy

The articles published in the SITECON 2026 conference proceedings will be Open-Access articles distributed under the terms and conditions of the Creative Commons Attribution – Non Commercial – Share Alike 4.0 International license (CC BY-NC-SA 4.) which allows copying, redistribution, remixing, transformation, and building upon the work for non-commercial purposes with attribution.

Publishing Ethics and Malpractice Statement

All papers included in the proceedings undergo a peer-review process and are published in accordance with the principles of academic integrity, transparency and responsibility. The editorial and review process follows internationally recognised publishing ethics standards and includes measures to prevent plagiarism, citation manipulation, conflicts of interest and other forms of academic misconduct.

By publishing in the proceedings, authors confirm the originality of their work and agree to comply with the ethical principles and editorial policies of the conference.
